Bach to the Future

Bach ‘n’Roll? “Nein!” say you? Well, TalentPlus Spotlight Music can change your mind with Bach to the Future. From the ever widening world of music comes Johann Sebastian Bach and other classical composers updated with Latin, jazz and world rhythms. The fusion of history and present comes alive on the stage with this masterful, virtuoso quartet of players on instruments named the Zendrum Drumitar, the Violectra, the remote percussion MIDI instrument, the Keytar synthesizer and a six string electric bass.

It was Matt Bollinger’s interest in arranging Bach’s cello suites for six-string electric bass that started the Bach rolling and Bach to the Future playing over 100 concerts a year and selling more than 100,000 CDs. Bollinger is joined by brothers Mike and Rob Silverman with whom he has performed since childhood and Andrew Driscoll. Their combined experiences have put them on stage with David Sanborn, Peter Cincotti, the Rippingtons, Acoustic Alchemy, Al DiMeola, Stanley Jordan, Luciano Pavarotti, Sarah Brightman and the Trans Siberian Orchestra to name a few of music’s luminaries who have discovered the amazing, cutting edge sound of Bach to the Future. Bach, who was at the cutting edge of music in his time, would appreciate where Bach to the Future has taken him in the dawn of the 21st Century.

Bach to the Future members have brought years of education, skills, gifts and desire to bring Bach and other ‘long-hair’ music to a new generation of listeners in a very new way. Bollinger plays the 6-string Fretless Space Bass allowing him to perform in a range far greater than the standard bass guitar. Rob Silverman performs on the Zendrum Drumitar, an electronic percussion instrument worn like a guitar, played similarly to drums such as the conga, striking with the hand rather than drumsticks. His mastery of world rhythms is a major influence in the quartet’s fierce musical arrangements. Mike Silverman is pianist/keyboardist and plays the Keytar (which emulates the sounds of many instruments and some sounds as yet identified) and has written themes for television, scores for film and is the principal composer for BTTF. Andrew Driscoll plays the electric violin and has stretched the boundaries of the classical instrument to find exciting new horizons for Bach to the Future.

Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, composed by J. S. Bach and considered his most widely heard composition is a three-minute extract from a thirty-minute cantata. It is lilting, happy music. To hear it performed by Bach to the Future with exquisite effervescence and wit is a feast for the ears and something you won’t soon forget. Also composed by Bach, Ave Maria never sounded in church like Bach to the Future has arranged it! The familiar becomes fresh, fabulously futuristic and completely accessible. Bach to the Future - the Bach that rocks!
